Cat Art Print - If They Cry Feed Them More (Pet Refuge Fundraiser)

100% of proceeds go to Pet Refuge!

Copies of this print have been kindly donated by artist Jess Johnson to help us raise money for Pet Refuge - a very important charity providing shelter and care for pets of people affected by domestic violence.

The Artist
Jess Johnson is a New Zealand born artist whose artwork reflects ideologies of technology and flesh, both ancient and futuristic. Extending into installation, video, VR, and fashion, her fictional world is initially developed by hand through her drawings. She lives and works between New York and New Zealand.

Over the past few years, Johnson has received the Arts Development Grant from the City of Yarra, the National Works on Paper Award from the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and The John McCaughey Memorial Prize for her commission for the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. She has received many international residencies and fellowships, including the Sci-Fi and the Human Condition Residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, NE and the Australian Council, Greene Street Studio Residency in New York. Her work is in public collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Monash University Museum of Art in Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Christchurch Art Gallery in New Zealand and the James Wallace Arts Trust in New Zealand. In 2022, she undertook a collaboration with fashion label Gorman.

Johnson has contributed a great deal to cat welfare: "At the start of Covid in 2020 I was living in New York and fell into looking after a colony of stray cats that lived in a truck lot in Brooklyn. Most were abandoned pets and not equipped to survive outside without help. I created a cat themed print campaign to help fund the caretaking costs of the colony. The print sales also raised money for Brooklyn locals who self-funded TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release), which helped keep the neighbourhood cat populations under control. I'm really happy to continue the cat activities in New Zealand by donating copies of If They Cry Feed Them More."

"The drawing text comes from the cat-sitting instructions I would leave for my two cats Mike and Kelley in Melbourne, Australia, named after the artist Mike Kelley (RIP). They were the much loved mascots to an art gallery called Hell."
